Anniversary Session at Smith Rock State Park | Abbi + Connor

have you ever been to smith rock state park in bend, oregon? if not, you’re for sure missing out. bend, oregon is a beautiful city in central oregon that is lush with gorgeous landscape unlike its northern neighbor, portland. here, the pine forest transitions to the high desert. on first glance, you might think they were in california or arizona. teleporting say whaaaat? just another one of the million reasons why the pacific northwest is a literal dream for elopements, weddings, and rad adventures with your partner in crime. 

i was in bend for an elopement and abby and connor were down to take some killer photos despite it being a hot ass day in oregon. these two honestly love to roll with the punches. for instance, one time just before traveling to french polynesia to swim with whales, they were told they should cancel due to a protest. however, they went on with the plans and ended up getting upgraded to a better room, discounts, free meals and an incredible day for swimming with whales. they love to travel and go to new places together. the stellar desert views and rock formations made it absolutely worth all the damn sweat and sunshine. 

like most sessions go, it was an adventure from start to finish and it was easy as hell to talk to these two. we hiked around and chatted about breweries, their recent travels and the new roots they were setting in bend having just moved there. smith rock state park has a lot of diverse trails so we started out in the desert in front of some gorgeous rock formations, and moved later on to a part that overlooked the crooked river, which weaves its way through the park.  

smith rock state park is a popular location for engagement photos and elopements so while you’re here, i might as well give you some information in case you want to come back with me and celebrate! a day-pass is required to get in and two of the popular trails are the summit trail and misery ridge. there are some railings at certain viewpoints so keep that in mind if you want to do a ceremony near there.
